HBO's 'The Wizard of Lies' premiering in May

According to the  Feb. 28 HBO press release, the HBO Films presentation "The Wizard of Lies" will be debuting on May 20 at 8 p.m. EST. The film is about Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme and how his deception, lies, and cover-up, catapulted his wife and sons into a harsh and unrelenting spotlight.

Barry Levison is the director of "The Wizard of Lies," as well as the executive producer of the project. Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro, Berry Welsh, and Tom Fontana are also executive producers and Jason Sosnoff is the co-executive producer. Joseph E. Iberti produced it and it was written by Sam Levinson, John Burham Schwartz, and Samuel Baum.

Along with Robert De Niro (who plays Bernie Madoff), Michelle Phieffer, Nathan Darrow, Hank Azaria, Kristen Connolly, Alessandro Nivola, and Lily Rabe star in the HBO film.

"The Wizard of Lies" is based on the book "The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust" by Diana B. Henriques. Laurie Sandell's "Truth and Consequences" was also used as additional source material.
